Luke Ski Update – 3/13/2014

MarsCon 2014 was not the only big project thing of mine that came to a conclusion over the past week. I also either handed or mailed off the final printed CD album of my Kickstarter donor songs to those donors, officially bringing my 2012 Kickstarter for "Luke Ski's AV Concert Rig" to an end. I'm going to do a video / blog post about it via the KS site soon, but the main point is that other than these songs getting delivered about 6 months late, the Kickstarter campaign was a total success. Thanks again to everyone who donated. Your contributions have gotten me the gear that has improved my performances and creative output immensely. I am likely going to do another Kickstarter in the fall for the purpose of acquiring one specific expensive piece of equipment. But until then, I have a new Luke Ski comedy music album to write, record, and release at GenCon Indy 2014. 🙂 And now, the post-MarsCon-2014 news. ~ Luke Ski, 3/13/2014

  • "BECAUSE OF BOB", the new song by the great Luke Ski!

In 2012, I did a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds so I could acquire new tech that would aid me in making and performing new creative endeavors in art, comedy, and music. One of the donation prizes was that I would write and record a funny song inspired by the donor, and release all of these songs on an album. I participated in FAWM (February Album Writing Month) in 2014 as a means to write and record the 9 remaining songs I owe to those donors and release the album. This song, the first and title track of that album (available now at my Bandcamp page, see next story), is inspired by my largest Kickstarter donor, Bob Mathews aka 'Number 11', whose donation directly led to everything mentioned in the song happening, most importantly, fulfilling my promise to anyone who donated over $1,750 that I would mow their lawn. Bob donated $2,200. So while you likely won't understand much in this song or on the rest of the album, you'll certainly sense the fun and the appreciation I feel for all the folks who donated to my first Kickstarter. Thank you to all of you. Especially Bob. Download the a free MP3 now at the FuMP! http://www.thefump.com

Check out the music video I made for this song full of pics and video of many of the actual events described in the lyrics:

  • "BECAUSE OF BOB: LUKE SKI'S KICKSTARTER FAWM ALBUM (SONGS I WROTE ABOUT PEOPLE FOR MONEY)"

The previous article already explained what this is, so I'm not going to recap it. You can listen to the 10 song, 27-minute-long EP for free at its Bandcamp page. You can also buy a digital download of it for $4.99, or buy a CD with digital download of it for $5.99 + shipping. Note, I haven't decided yet whether or not I will be reprinting this album as a physical CD. As of me typing these words, there are 7 copies of it remaining on CD for sale at the Bandcamp page. So if you're one of those fans who likes to own physical copies of the CDs by your favorite acts, I'd advise you to purchase it now, since you may not get another chance.

  • Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport: Episode #100 - Live At MarsCon 2014

The numeric prophecy has come to pass, finally justifying my labeling our first episode as "#001". Lunging forth through the darkness of the internet, our digital audio warhammer has smashed through the barrier separating double digits from triple digits, for after 4 years, 4 months, and 26 days, the fortnightly-ish podcast known as "Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport" has finally arrived at EPISODE 100!!! This episode was recorded live at MarsCon 2014 as a part of the Dementia Track festivities, and features an audience made of people, our first physical evidence that our show actually has such a thing. You'll hear many familiar voices in the crowd of this episode, as well as hearing a handful of highlights from past episodes of "LCBR", as I have always abbreviated it. The music for this momentus episode comes from Adam English of Ookla The Mok, Wayne & Garth, Mystery Science Theater 3000, T.J. Miller, Flat 29, The Toy Dolls, and three tracks by the great Luke Ski from his new 27-minute-long album "Because Of Bob: Luke Ski's Kickstarter FAWM album (songs I wrote about people for money)", which is available physically (for now) and digitally (forever) at LukeSki.bandcamp.com. Our first episode was titled "Our Motto: Shoot For Tolerable". So Carrie and Luke put it to you, the listener, did we succeed? Has this show been tolerable, nay, even entertaining? Or has this show devolved even further into a colossal waste of everyone's time? After listening to this episode, please leave us a comment and let us know. Some congratulatory phone calls to 916-LUKE-SKI would be particularly welcome. No matter what you think of what this show has become, it is undenyable that it still exists, which is at least partially your fault. So take ownership of that by leaving a comment or a voice message, and we'll see you all at #101, unless all your messages are advising us to stop. Episode length: 1:39:59

  • LUKE SKI ANNOUNCED AS JUROR IN 2014 LOGAN AWARDS!

One of the reasons I intentionally didn't release any new songs in 2013 was so that I could be a Juror for the 2014 Logan Awards. Having won twice before, it's time for me to save some water for the fishes and do my duty to the genre I love by handing out awards to the best comedy songs and music videos of 2013. Well, to be 1/7th responsible for it anyway. To find out who the other 6 jurors are, go here: http://www.loganawards.com/jurors .

As a Juror, I am not allowed to nominate songs, so it is up to you, the fans, to let me know which funny songs & music videos you felt were award-worthy on the calendar year of 2013. You can submit your suggestions for potential nominees from now until April 3rd at the following website: http://www.loganawards.com/nomination-form . To see what has already been nominated, look here: http://www.loganawards.com/nomination-list . And finally, if you need a reminder of some awesome songs from 2013 that you may want to nominate, read the first comment on episode #99 of Bad Rapport: http://badrapport.com/2014/03/02/episode-099-naked-kiddo/#comments

  • LUKE SKI IN "SOME JERK WITH A CAMERA" DISNEYLAND REVIEW!

If you're a Disney nerd, especially when it comes to going to the Disney theme parks, then the best show you could possibly be watching online is Tony Goldmark's "Some Jerk With A Camera" series on Blip.tv. For the past few years, Tony has covered everything from the Country Bear Jamboree to Captain EO, with hilarious results. His most recent season of the show finished with a story arc in which Tony reviewed all of the ABC sitcoms of the 90's that did episodes where their family visited Disney World in Florida. In the season finale, he reviews the ABC sitcoms that went to Disneyland in California, and at the end of the episode, there is a special appearance by me which was filmed when I was in California last April. You can see that episode here: http://blip.tv/some-jerk-with-a-camera/abc-goes-to-disneyland-6736840 , and again, if you're a Disney nerd, I highly suggest you go back to Episode 1 and watch the whole damn thing. Just watch out for 3-D spinning rocks in space.
