“Scud”
The newest song from the great Luke Ski,
Download the free MP3 now at the Funny Music Project,
http://www.theFuMP.com

This is a song about what is in my opinion, the greatest comic book ever, “Scud The Disposable Assassin”, created by Rob Schrab.

Rob and I used to take improv classes together in Milwaukee. Rob is one of the original members of “The Dead Alewives”, giving him the distinct infamy of being ‘the Mountain Dew guy’ in the world renowned “Dungeons & Dragons” sketch. During Scud’s original mid-90’s run, he moved to L.A., where his growing Hollywood workload made him decide to stop “Scud” at issue #20 with an armageddon-implying cliffhanger. Rob went on with his comedy partners to create such cool things as the pilot “Heat Vision And Jack” which starred Jack Black and was directed by Ben Stiller, “Robot Bastard”, “Channel 101″, “Acceptable TV”, “Monster House”, “The Hell O’clock News” for Tenacious D, he directed a video for Death Cab for Cutie, and he is the co-creator and director of “The Sarah Silverman Program”. A decade later, Rob felt it was finally time to finish what he’d started, and created issues 21 through 24 of “Scud”, which at long last finishes the story. Image Comics released them over the summer, and today released “Scud The Disposable Assassin: the Whole Shebang”, an 786 page Omnibus containing all 24 issues, available at your local comic shop now. Rob also announced a Scud fan film contest at his website, RobSchrab.com, and has already gotten some great entries.

I have been wanting to do a song about “Scud” ever since I started making music in ‘94. The song’s time has finally come. Many of my fans have told me that they would have never seen a movie or started watching a TV show if I hadn’t done a song about it that peaked their interest in it. My “Scud” song is my ultimate expression of attempting to achieve that desired effect. The comic book “Scud” is the coolest thing in my life that most other people don’t know about. So as well as paying tribute to something that has meant so much to me over the past 14 years, I hope you’ll go pick up a copy of the Omnibus and get sucked into the world of “Scud”. And FYI, I am going to attempt to make a music video for this song before the end of the month for the Scud fan film contest.

The opening and closing music for the song is by Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad, with vocals by Chris and Carrie Dahlby. What else left is there to say about it, other than… …It’s cool to be a robot.

~ Luke Ski, July 22nd, 2008

So Rob Balder and DJ Particle rallied the filk and comedy music scenes to submit over 40 Tom Smith cover songs by the likes of the great Luke Ski, Sudden Death, Worm Quartet, Possible Oscar, TV’s Kyle, Art Paul Schlosser, Odd Austin Aeschilman, and dozens more for an MP3 album to help Tom Smith get on his feet (pun intended, this is about Tom Smith after all).

So here’s how this track came into existance…

Last fall, Spaff (who writes all of Robert Lund’s tracks) informed Carrie Dahlby and myself that he was writing a song parody with her and I in mind to sing lead vocals on.

Recently, he sent us the finished song lyrics. We read them, and thought they were very funny. We also thought the song was very nonsensical and silly. We agreed to sing it for him.

Suddenly, I got an idea for a sketch to frame the song in, in the same overall genre the song he’s parodying is known to have been from, which would kind-of sort-of make the song make sense within the context of the sketch. I proceeded to write the sketch.

Spaff enlisted (or maybe ‘tricked’ would be a better term) Bob from Project Sisyphus to not only create the music for the song parody, but to also create some brilliant sound cues for the sketch portions, and engineer, mix, edit, and master the whole thing.

A couple of great cameos by Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad and Tom Smith were graciously donated and added to the couldron, and voila, you have what could possibly be the weirdest track ever posted at the FuMP.

So, to recap:
Song parody lyrics by Spaff
Sketches written by the great Luke Ski
Lead vocals by Carrie Dahlby & the great Luke Ski

“I WANT TO BE STEVE BUSCEMI” - SONG UP AT “THE FUMP”!

There will be new tracks featuring Luke Ski posting at the FuMP on June 3rd, June 10th, and June 13th, so be sure to keep going back to http://www.thefump.com to download them all for free! My most recent song posted at the FuMP is “I WANT TO BE STEVE BUSCEMI” ( http://www.thefump.com/fump.php?id=1047 ).

Tom Smith’s classic hit ‘I Want To Be Peter Lorre’ has been parodied countless times over the past couple decades. Back in the fall of 2004, I got the idea to take his song about the beloved bug-eyed character actor of classic cinema, Peter Lorre, and rewrite it about the beloved bug-eyed character actor of modern cinema, Steve Buscemi. I performed it a couple of times, but it has since been collecting dust in a spiral notebook in my storage room of doom. Recently some fans and friends were asking about it in the Dementia Radio chat room, which led to me asking Tom for his permission and talent in making it a reality. Tom graciously whipped up some background music for me to use… Background music which will later be improved for his forthcoming re-recorded version of ‘I Want To Be Peter Lorre’ as part of his ‘Sounds Familiar’ project which he’s been posting at iTom, where you can get even more free comedy songs, just like right here at the FuMP!… Anyway, I had always hoped to have this song recorded someday, so thank you again to Tom Smith for making this track a reality.

Dr. Demento played “I Want To Be Steve Buscemi” on his show 2 weeks ago! If you’d like to hear it make Dr. Demento’s Top Ten countdown, or would like to see my Top Ten hits “JACK BAUER” or “THE CHAINSAW JUGGLER” return to the top ten, you can request either song at the official REQUEST page, http://drdemento.com/request , and make your demented voice heard! Literally!

That’s right, as a new feature of “The Dr. Demento Show”, you now have the ability when requesting a song at his website to attach an audio file (wav or mp3) of yourself making your request, which could be used on the show itself! Yes! YOUR VOICE REQUEST COULD BE HEARD ON “THE DR. DEMENTO SHOW!” Find out all about it at the aforementioned request page: http://drdemento.com/request You will also receive a free online listen to the show if your request is chosen for broadcast!

You can find out all about “The Dr. Demento Show” at his website, http://www.drdemento.com , where you can listen to the show for just $2.00 an episode!

You can also make requests for your favorite new Luke Ski songs for the Mad Music Top 20 at http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/top20voting.aspx , and for Dementiamania at http://www.dfsxradio.com/9400.htm. And of course, you can purchase the songs from my artist page at the FuMP: http://www.thefump.com/artist.php?id=2

“The Chainsaw Juggler” hits #5 on Dr. Demento’s Top Ten for April 2008!

My newest song posted at the FuMP, “THE CHAINSAW JUGGLER”, limbed it way to #5 on the Top Ten countdown for April 2008! Thank you to all of you who requested it! If you’d like to hear it make the countdown again, or would like to see my Top Ten hit from Jan/Feb’08 “JACK BAUER” return to the top ten, you can request either song at the official REQUEST page, http://drdemento.com/request, and make your demented voice heard!

For those of you who don’t know, I closed the MarsCon 2008 Dementia Smackdown concert by performing a cover of the original version of the song “The Chainsaw Juggler” by the Four Postmen. Not only was this song the #1 song of 1999 on “The Dr. Demento Show”, but it is also possibly the greatest comedy song of the past decade. With the approval of the mighty mailmen themselves, I posted my studio version of the song at the FuMP, featuring cameo appearances by Art Paul Schlosser, Carrie Dahlby, The Consortium of Genius, DJ Particle, the Gothsicles, Hot Waffles, Possible Oscar, Power Salad, Raymond and Scum, Rob Balder, Robert Lund, Seamonkey, Sudden Death, Throwing Toasters, Tom Smith, Whimsical Will, Worm Quartet, and Wyngarde. Rock out, dude.

BACON: the squeel! I mean, the SEQUEL!

Hey, remember my bacon song about bacon entitled “BACON!”?!? http://www.thefump.com/fump.php?id=42
Well, Sudden Death has now written a parody of it as a follow-up, “Bacon 2: Electric Bugaloo!”:
