Hey everybody, Luke Ski here. It's been well over a month since I've sent off a proper Luke Ski Update. So here goes, my first Luke Ski update as a Chicagoland resident. Go Cubbies!

Comedy Music, Stupid News, Annoying Conversation. Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport. Listen. Or don't.

"TOO MUCH STUFF" is currently the 2ND MOST REQUESTED song of 2009 on the Dr. Demento Show!

If you'd like to see it RECLAIM THE TOP SPOT OF 2009 and hang onto it clear through to December (which I believe would make me the FIRST ARTIST TO HAVE THE #1 SONG OF THE YEAR THREE TIMES), then please REQUEST for “THE DR. DEMENTO SHOW” to play “TOO MUCH STUFF” by the great Luke Ski again at the official request page, http://drdemento.com/request!!!

Also, my most recent FuMP track "Marvel Poppins" was #2 on Dr. Demento's Top Ten for Sept. '09! So if you'd like for that to get another spin, feel free to request "Marvel Poppins" as well.

Did you know that now you can make your demented voice heard, literally?! That’s right, as a feature of “The Dr. Demento Show”, you now have the ability when requesting a song at his website to attach an audio file (wav or mp3) of yourself making your request, which could be used on the show itself! Yes! YOUR VOICE REQUEST COULD BE HEARD ON “THE DR. DEMENTO SHOW!” Find out all about it at the aforementioned request page: http://drdemento.com/request You will also receive a free online listen to the show if your request is chosen for broadcast! You can find out all about “The Dr. Demento Show” at his website, http://www.drdemento.com , where you can listen to the show for just $2.00 an episode! And of course, you can still download the song at the Website of the Funny Music Project, aka ‘the FuMP dot com’: http://www.thefump.com .

  • "TOO MUCH STUFF!" The 9th full length comedy album from the great Luke Ski!

Do you have too much stuff? No, I don't mean all those boxes and bags full of comic books and action figures that are stacked up within six feet of your computer. I'm talking about the 9th full-length comedy album by the great Luke Ski, "Too Much Stuff." Not only does it have the title track which is one of the most popular songs of 2009 on the Dr. Demento Show, but it also has tracks about the new Star Trek movie, Lost, horror movie icons (Freddy, Jason, Chucky, etc.), the Transformers, tributes to Tom Lehrer, the Wisconsin Dells, and Stephen Colbert, and much more. Featuring appearances by Carrie Dahlby, Insane Ian, Devo Spice and Tom Smith. Buy this album so you too can have Too Much Stuff!

  • Tour date CANCELLATION: Con on the Cob

Hey everyone. I regret to inform you that I will have to cancel my appearance at "Con on the Cob" for this year. My reasons for this are purely financial, having other opportunities for money-making gigs that weekend, primarily one in the Wisconsin Dells during Harvest Fest at the Showboat Saloon (Re: my song "We're Goin' To The Dells"). I feel particularly horrible about it because so many other of my colleagues had to cancel on Con on the Cob as well for this year due to the economy and such. Con on the Cob is the second convention to foster a track dedicated solely to dementia-style comedy music (the first being MarsCon, with a nod to PenguiCon for their track record of supporting dementia acts), and I for one want the Con on the Cob Comedy Music Extravagasm to continue and flourish, dammit. So please, if you're in the vicinity of the Akron/Cleveland OH area, please attend Con on the Cob and check out their music track. They'll have Performer Guest Of Honor ShoeBox of Worm Quartet, kick-ass hip-hop dementia from EMC and C- of Positive Attitude, the a capella parodies of W. Randy Hoffman, the Johnny Carson of the high seas "Bluebeard's Pirate Talk Show", up-and-comers Soggy Potato Chips, Max Goof, Derwood Bowen III, and much more. CON ON THE COB 2009 http://www.cononthecob.com/music.html Hudson, OH - Clarion Hotel & Conference Center (between Cleveland and Akron) October 15, 16, 17, & 18th, 2009 If you’re a funny music performer looking for a place to perform, email andy@andyhopp.com to see about getting added to the line-up.

  • THE FuMP WINS A PARSEC AWARD!

Here's a press release written by Devo Spice & Spaff:

The Funny Music Project Wins New Media Award

For the past 20 years or so, comedy music has been all but blacklisted by the mainstream music industry. What was once a common appearance on Top 40 radio has been relegated to the darkest corners of the Internet. But now, funny songs have received a serious boost: The Funny Music Project was the winner of a 2009 Parsec Award.

The Funny Music Project, aka The FuMP, is a web site launched in 2007 offering biweekly songs from comedy musicians. All of the music is podsafe, DRM-free, and available via free download from the web site. A recent song by "the great Luke Ski," for example, parodies "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to riff on Disney's acquisition of Marvel Comics: "Superheroes owned by Marvel, Disney has acquired us / We must go along with it or else the mouse will fire us / X-Men are the Jonas Brothers, Storm is Miley Cyrus / Superheroes owned by Marvel, Disney has acquired us."

The Parsec Awards were created in 2006 by author Mur Lafferty, Michael R. Mennenga of Farpoint Media, and author Tracy Hickman to recognize excellence in speculative fiction podcasting. The award is given out each year at Dragon*Con to science fiction, fantasy, and horror authors who make their work available via podcast. In 2009, the awards added a category for music.

"When I found out The FuMP was nominated for a Parsec Award, I was shocked because I wasn't the one who nominated it," joked Tom Rockwell, a comedian and rapper known as Devo Spice.

Rockwell, manager of The FuMP, was in the audience for the awards and performed three songs during the ceremony. The award was presented by Rick Stringer, creator and host of the Parsec Award-winning podcast Variant Frequencies.

"This award really means a lot to me because we have put so much time and effort into The FuMP. It's great to have that recognized," says Rockwell. "Record labels and radio stations may not be interested in funny music anymore, but the fans obviously are. That's all that matters."

Also nominated in the music category were FETIDUS (The Foundation for the Ethical Treatment of the Innocently Damned, Undead and Supernatural), The GeekSpin, Radio Free Hipster, and Wander Radio.
